As you already know, the sun emits light energy called photons that solar panels absorb and convert into electricity.  In this project students will design, print and build their very own solar battery charger by putting their maths and dimensional measurement skills into action!

Each student receives their own kit which contains the electronic components needed to build an AA battery solar charger.  They also receive a CAD file which is a starting point for their design, as well as a student workbook which guides them through the design process.

Students use maths and dimensional measurement skills to add missing features to the solar charger enclosure before 3D printing and assembling it.  Students get to take their charger home and use it to recharge batteries that power their other 3D printed projects and gadgets! This is a great STEM project for teachers to do further teaching on topics such as solar power, renewable energy and electronics!
