What is the Arduino Cloud School plan?
The School Plan provides everything educators need to run STEM projects in the classroom in one convenient platform. It offers access to an enhanced classroom environment in the Arduino Cloud, where teachers and students can engage with comprehensive learning content, explore additional resources, and collaborate through shared project spaces.
The plan also includes seamless integration with Google Classroom™, making it easier to manage classes, assignments, and student work.
How does the Arduino Cloud School plan work?
The School plan operates on a pay-per-member model. As long as you have available slots, you can invite, replace, or remove members whenever needed.
Administrators have access to the plan management area, where they can update and customise the plan, as well as view invoices and manage billing information.
How do I activate the Arduino School plan subscription?
From the Arduino Cloud, click on your Avatar (top right), then on My Plan, and purchase the plan that best suits you.
You can also go to the School plan website: https://cloud.arduino.cc/plans/
How are the Arduino Cloud and Explore IoT Kit Rev2 related?
Using the Explore IoT Kit Rev2 with the School Plan unlocks additional features and full access to the learning content. This includes 10 real-world projects and extra sensor-based activities that enable students to explore sustainability challenges through data collection and analysis, while developing solutions using advanced IoT systems.
How do my students access the full content that comes with the School plan?
Students gain access to the full content through a teacher invitation to join a School Shared Space. After selecting and purchasing the School plan that best fits your needs, you can create this shared space for your class or school.
A Shared Space is a collaborative environment where all members benefit from the same plan and its features. Within a School Shared Space, students and teachers can access additional courses, use Arduino Cloud tools—including the Web Editor and IoT Cloud—without limitations, and explore a wide range of Arduino resources and documentation.
Teachers can either create a new Shared Space or join an existing one through an email invitation. Once inside, you’ll be able to explore and manage all the features available to your school’s shared environment.
Do I have to purchase the Explore IoT Kit Rev2 to access lessons and activities?
When you purchase the Explore IoT Kit Rev2, you gain access to introductory resources designed to help you get started. These include teacher guides, onboarding and troubleshooting materials, one real-world sustainability project, and two sensor-based activities. This basic content is available when using the kit with the Arduino Cloud Free Plan.
By subscribing to the School Plan, you unlock the complete learning experience. This includes 10 real-world sustainability projects, 11 sensor activities, and additional foundational learning materials.
Whether you choose the Free Plan or the School Plan, the Explore IoT Kit Rev2 is required to complete the activities and projects.
How do I access the basic content?
Go to the Arduino Cloud website and sign in to your Arduino account. If you are using the free plan, you will be able to view the basic content available in the Courses section in the left-hand menu. To unlock and access the full course content, a School plan subscription is required.
Who can use the kit?
This kit is designed for high school and college students beginning their journey into the Internet of Things (IoT). It is ideal for learners who already have a basic understanding of programming, as fundamental coding concepts are not covered in the kit’s content.
No prior experience with IoT technologies is required. Students will be introduced to key concepts such as cloud services, APIs, and using sensors to collect and work with data as part of the learning process.
What are the minimum knowledge requirements for using the kit?
Students should have a basic understanding of programming before using this kit. The components are plug-and-play, so there is no need to build complex electronic circuits. While the sensor activities provide step-by-step guidance for both assembly and programming, some foundational programming concepts and code structures are assumed knowledge and are not explained in detail.
How many students can use the kit?
The Explore IoT Kit Rev2 is designed for collaborative learning, with students typically working in groups of two or three, though it can also be used by an individual student. Each kit contains all the hardware needed to complete one project at a time.
To access the full course content and all available tools with unlimited features, each student must have an individual seat in the teacher’s School Plan.
What languages does the online platform support?
At the moment, the Explore IoT Kit Rev2 is available in English. More languages will become available.
What topics does the Explore IoT Kit Rev2 cover?
The Arduino Explore IoT Kit Rev2 helps students develop a deeper understanding of how technology is applied in the real world. As an industry-standard Internet of Things (IoT) learning platform, it supports students in building the knowledge and skills they will need for future study, careers, and global challenges.
With the Explore IoT Kit Rev2, schools can empower students in two key ways:
- Learning how IoT devices and cloud technologies work, and how they are used in modern connected systems.
- Using technology as a tool to explore and solve real-world challenges.
The projects included in the kit are inspired by several of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), encouraging students to investigate meaningful global issues while developing practical technical skills.
What are the minimum requirements for using the kit in the classroom?
To complete the activities and program the board, each group will need a computer with internet access. Students must also have access to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and know the network credentials (SSID and password). For guidance on setting up your network for the Arduino IoT Cloud, please refer to the configuration instructions.
The kit is compatible with Windows, macOS, and Chromebooks.
Can I see the online content of the Explore IoT Kit Rev2, if I have the Explore IoT Kit?
You can access the full Rev2 content by subscribing to the Arduino School Plan. The Explore IoT Kit Rev1 is approximately 90% compatible with the Explore IoT Kit Rev2 course material.
Only one project cannot be completed using the Rev1 hardware, as this version of the kit does not include the BME688 sensor.
