Description

A 6 Pack of 6mm Falcata laserply, also known as lightweight Falcata plywood. A cost-effective, ultra-light, and soft plywood widely used in the laser-cutting community due to its ease of processing and, in many cases, its eco-friendly origin from fast-growing timber. It is commonly chosen as an alternative to more expensive plywoods when reducing weight is a priority, particularly in caravan, RV, and cabinetry applications.

Key Characteristics

  • Weight: Exceptionally lightweight, typically around 35–38% lighter than standard hardwood plywood, with an average density of approximately 330–370 kg/m³.
  • Appearance: Pale white to light brown in tone, featuring a subtle, understated grain. The face is generally clean, though the grain can occasionally show slight inconsistencies.
  • Cutting & Engraving: Its soft composition allows for very fast and clean laser cutting, producing a light golden-brown edge finish.
  • Composition: Manufactured from Albizia falcataria timber and bonded with an interior-grade adhesive that is often formaldehyde-free.

Best Applications

  • Intricate Laser Cutting: Perfect for fine, detailed designs that require a low-density material that cuts easily and cleanly.
  • Caravans & RVs: Widely used for interior fit-outs, cabinetry, and ceiling linings where weight reduction is essential.
  • Signage & Displays: Ideal for lightweight signage and displays, suitable for painting or sealing to achieve a natural timber look.
  • Modeling & Crafts: Well suited for hobbyists and professionals creating architectural models or small, detailed craft pieces.

Advantages for Laser Users

  • Fast Cutting Speeds: Its soft, low-density structure requires less power to cut, enabling faster production rates.
  • Reduced Charring: Produces cleaner cuts with minimal dark charring compared to denser woods.
  • Versatility: Easily painted, stained, or laminated to suit a wide range of finishes.

Limitations

  • Interior Use Only: Not suitable for external applications.
  • Fragility: As a soft, low-density wood, it is not recommended for structural uses requiring high strength.
  • Density Variation: As a natural material, density may vary slightly between sheets.
